Siblings get prison in fire that killed dad, sons DEDHAM- Moments after two Quincy brothers were sentenced yesterday to up to three years in prison for keeping an illegal basement apartment where an immigrant father and his two young sons died in a 2009 fire, authorities announced plans to seek a state law that would penalize landlords for maintaining unsafe dwellings. Prosecutor Lynn Beland said before sentencing yesterday that the brothers, Andy and Jason Huang, “gambled with the lives of their tenants.’’ They had faced more than 20 years.
Quincy’s Wollaston Theatre bought by supermarket owner for $600K
Wollaston Theatre purchased by supermarket owner The Wollaston Theatre in Quincy has finally been sold after years of controversy and false hopes. According to Land Deed records, the property was transferred from Yvonne Chandler to Weston-based BNW Realty LLC on Jan. 25 for $600,000. BNW is managed by Michael Fang, who is trying to open a C-Mart in North Quincy. Fang says he hasn’t decided what to do with the building, but will be seeking community input.
Quincy works to enhance the tourist experience
Seeing Quincy To boost tourism, Quincy has created a Google map to lead visitors around the historic downtown area, and Hancock Cemetery. But getting from one historic site to another can be a challenge, and the overall tourism experience lacks coherence. The impending revitalization of Quincy Center, along with numerous marketing initiatives, will make things a lot better, officials say.
Nancy Smith, former Stonehill three-sport standout, joing Northeast-10 hall of fame
Nancy Smith grew up with two older sisters in Quincy. Occasionally they schooled their kid sister at the local playground, whatever sport they played. Looking back now, at age 50, Smith realizes those days set in motion her own athletic career. Her sisters were fine athletes, but Smith took her game to a much higher level. On Saturday, she reached her highest point, with her formal induction into the Northeast-10 Conference hall of fame at halftime of the women’s basketball game between Pace and host Stonehill.
MILTON | briefs: Judge rules three men ‘dangerous’
A Quincy District Court judge recently found three men charged in connection with a car chase and shooting in Milton on Jan. 12 to be dangerous, as defined by state law. Roy Jaundoo, 35, of Roslindale; Kevin Taylor, 22, of Dorchester; and Caiheem Kindell, 21, of Randolph, were ordered held without bail for 90 days. The three men, who have pleaded not guilty to the charges, are due back in court Feb. 27 for a pretrial conference. - Natalie Feulner

In college, Kane majored in physical education. A Quincy resident, she has run 17 marathons, and she is a longtime fitness trainer and instructor who has taught thousands of fitness classes over the past 20 years. But at age 52, she had a massive heart attack.
